SKINNY GLASS ARE BACK! SKINNY GLASSES ARE BACK?
When I first read/ saw that skinny glasses were BACK I was ecstatic. I'm all about starting your own trends, dancing to your own maracas etc. etc. But most "trends" that I like to tell myself I started (pom pom earrings) cost about $3 from H&M... while most "trends" celebrities can take credit for cost about $150 plus.
It's not only good for the soul but economically friendly to set your own trends.
However, this was definitely a celeb trend I could get behind. All I had to do was raid our junk drawer ( AKA old sunglasses, watches, gel pens, broken earrings, flashlights, a bag of 500 pennies and binoculars) to find a pair of my mom's old glasses. Skinny glasses used to be THE look then came the wave of the bug glasses and they were casted to the side. When I came across her old tortoise shell Gucci skinnies I almost fainted on impact. They really were beautiful, I couldn't believe they had been in the junk drawer next to chia-pet fertilizer neglected for years.
This made me think about some of the "trends" that has come out of the last year or so: the skinny sunglasses, the fanny pack, the velcro sneaker, the tracksuit, the visor... what do all of these items have in common? They are all ridiculously comfortable, easy & functional pieces. Working theory is that celebrities have to be presentable all. the. time. and are also on the go all. the. time. I THINK they push back by incorporating items into their everyday style that are ACTUALLY comfortable & easy because they don't give an F. This makes way for & gives the OK to us. I found it comical that as these trends start coming out... all I had to do was dig through my closet/middle school gear to find what I was looking for. Now i'm not trying to turn this into a call to action.. and i'm all about going along with celeb trends if you genuinely like what they're putting together.. but I promise you we all have the 1) capability 2) actual pieces/ clothing/items 3) ability to not give a fuck & be our own trend setters. So go in your closet, dig out your gauchos, clogs, rolly backpacks ( so functional, so great) & bows you wore when you were 8... and dooo ittttt. Kendal & Co. are great and all, but don't wait for them to give you the AYE-OK.
